Shafiya Roshan Rafaithu is an independent researcher with a BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Peradeniya. Her research has involved women of peripheral communities of Northern Muslims, Hill-Country Tamils in the North, oppressed caste communities, the co-operative movement, the debt restructuring, and the returning refugees to Sri Lanka from India. Her interests include the rural economy, women’s livelihoods, and socio-economic problems of marginalized and oppressed communities while also studying the psychosocial well-being of those communities, the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka, and debt restructuring. She is the co-founder of the Young Researchers’ Network Sri Lanka chapter (YRN), and a member of the Jaffna People’s Forum for Coexistence and Feminist Collective for Economic Justice (FCEJ).
